Class I Barbers are exempt from ABOCB’s statutory authority.  Class I Barbering is defined as shaving or trimming the beard or trimming the hair.  Shops employing only Class I Barbers are not required to obtain a shop license.

In response to the shortage of disinfectant wipes during the pandemic in 2020, the NIC Executive Board temporarily authorized all practical test centers to accept "best attempt" or "simulated product" for disinfectant wipes.

The Alabama Board of Cosmetology and Barbering is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except for state holidays. We can help you with replacing a lost cosmetology license, updating change of name or change of address information, and acquiring out-of-state and other useful forms, as well as answer additional questions about obtaining an Alabama state cosmetology license.
